The Dalai Lama once said that if all children were taught to meditate at school, global war could be wiped out within one generation. With mindfulness garnering increasing attention in the media, it is no longer linked solely to holistic practices such as yoga, but also with the corporate world, international sport, and even schools. The benefits of taking time out to turn inside and focus on yourself have been scientifically proven: practising mindfulness reduces stress levels, improves sleep, and increases concentration and awareness (to name but a few benefits). In today’s fast-paced world, where enough never seems to be enough, I for one would love to see mindfulness practices added to school curriculums to help equip future generations with simple but effective techniques to cope with stress and pressure.
